Addiction Treatment
Addiction treatment is a term used to describe the process of recovering from an addiction, substance abuse or chemical dependency disorder while in an addiction rehab center. The substances people typically find themselves needing addiction treatment for include alcohol, prescription medications, and other drugs including cocaine, crack, heroin, and methamphetamine. The general purpose of addiction treatment is to help the addict or alcoholic to overcome the physical addiction to the drug or alcohol, and to eventually heal themselves along a number of dimensions including their psychological state, biological shape, spiritual condition, and social relationships. These areas of someone’s life are typically ravaged and destroyed by addiction and rehab can help addicts recover to lead happy and productive lives.
Counseling in Rehab
Traditional addiction treatment has relied on counseling as the primary methodology for healing the addicted. Drug and alcohol counselors help addicts identify patterns of behaviors that have contributed to their addiction and teach them recovery skills and coping strategies. Counseling can take place in a group environment or on an individual basis. Process groups typically play an integral part of most addiction treatment centers as they enable addicts to help each other and learn from the experiences of others. Addiction treatment also typically incorporates some level of family counseling.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Another form of addiction treatment that is becoming more popular is cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy relies upon the theory that addicts and alcoholics possess core beliefs that are typically subconscious in nature and that promote addictive behaviors. Therapists that employ a cognitive behavioral approach try to identify the fundamental system of beliefs that are driving addictive behaviors in order to analyze the issues and impact with the addicted individual. Cognitive behavioral therapy may also involve homework assignments and behavioral exercises in order to highlight and cement the relevant learnings during treatment.
The Disease Model
Most addiction treatment professionals subscribe to the disease model of addiction, which assumes that the behavior displayed by addicted individuals is the result of a biological disease that can be exacerbated by environmental factors. The disease model implies that addicts and alcoholics are essentially powerless over their addictive behaviors and need to treat their condition much as they would a chronic ongoing disease. Behavioral treatment and addiction rehabilitation then requires addicts and alcoholics to recognize their problem and seek behavioral therapy or a support group that can help them stay sober.
Why Alta Mira’s Addiction Treatment is Different
Alta Mira is a premiere California addiction treatment facility. It is different than most addiction treatment centers due to the fact that we blend cutting-edge clinical addiction treatment with more traditional educational and experiential programs that help our clients develop a strong foundation for lifelong sobriety.
Individualized Treatment Plans
We do not believe in the one size fits all approach that most addiction treatment centers follow. At Alta Mira, every client receives a treatment plan that is customized to their particular needs. We tailor treatment plans based on a number of psychological and personality tests that each of our clients takes shortly after admission as well as intensive interviews with each client, their families, and members of their support group. In addition, every client will meet with a nutritionist to determine their dietary needs and a personal trainer to identify physical therapy requirements and create an exercise program during their treatment stay.
A Higher Level of Care
At Alta Mira, we strive to provide a level of care that is above and beyond the standard addiction treatment center. Every one of our clients receives a minimum of three individual therapy sessions weekly. They participate in daily process groups and addiction counseling with masters-level therapists seven days per week.
Better Outcomes through Collaboration
In order to create the best possible addiction treatment outcomes for our clients, we make it a priority to include referring professionals throughout the treatment process, from intake to discharge. We allow clients to conduct sessions with their existing therapists at Alta Mira during and after their treatment stay.
Family Involvement
We believe that family involvement is critical to the addiction treatment process and long-term recovery success. As a result, and with each client’s permission, we integrate key family members throughout the treatment experience.
A Lifetime Relationship
Alta Mira offers the most comprehensive, no-cost addiction treatment aftercare of any center of our kind. Regardless of their length of stay, we make a lifetime commitment to our clients. Each client that successfully completes the clinical program at Alta Mira will be able to attend weekly alumni support groups led by our Clinical Director and return to Alta Mira for a 2-day re-visit or “tune-up” every three months for the rest of their lives.
