The Alta Mira Way

The Alta Mira Way is a unique treatment philosophy that is the result of more than one hundred years of collective experience among our senior staff and codified in our client workbook.   We believe the best individualized treatment planning within a rigorous clinical framework offers our clients the highest odds for success and long term recovery.

The Alta Mira Way incorporates Four Stages of treatment. Each stage is intended to help clients find their own path to recovery and includes written exercises, experiential activities, psycho-education, and the development of recovery tools.

The Four Stages of Treatment

Stage One:  Getting Stable

  • Challenges in early recovery

  • Combating negative thinking
  • Developing a sense of purpose
  • Anger management

  • Recognizing and dealing with trauma
  • Spirituality, “living a life of integrity”

Stage Three: Dealing with Others

  • Practice these principles in all my affairs
  • Relationships in recovery

Detoxification (Click Here)

We offer on-site medically monitored detoxification at Alta Mira supported by 24 hour nursing staff. For the more complicated and life-threatening withdrawal symptoms most primary care clients we will assist in coordinating with an inpatient medical facility. In all cases, we do our best to help patients avoid the discomfort and the potential danger associated with withdrawal from alcohol, opiates, amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, stimulants and hallucinogens.

Orientation & clinical evaluation

The Alta Mira healing process begins with a physical and nutritional assessment, psychological testing, and a psycho-social evaluation. With the permission of clients, we include members of the client’s support group—family, friends, therapists and other healthcare professionals—in our comprehensive orientation process.

Family involvement

The therapeutic value of family involvement is not limited to the patient; it is also of incredible importance to family members themselves, who often bear scars from their loved one’s addiction and want desperately to be a part of the solution. For this reason, Alta Mira has developed a comprehensive and layered family program that is unrivaled in the treatment industry.

Individual and group therapy

We believe that exposure to both individual and group therapy increases the odds of long term recovery for clients. As such, our programs include a minimum of three individual therapy sessions every week and daily process groups. We staff licensed therapists seven days a week to address needs as they arise.

Education

Our programs include a heavy educational component, because our experience tells us that greater transparency and involvement in the treatment process allows for a better understanding of addiction and its effects on the mind and body. Our “brain healthy” curriculum includes a 75 minute lecture every morning, Monday through Saturday, that addresses a bio-psycho-social-spiritual recovery topic, and an afternoon interactive workshop that further expands on the morning lecture topic. This base of knowledge helps our clients make better choices after they leave treatment and reduces their risk of relapse.

Discharge & aftercare

Weekly Alumni GroupsEach client at Alta Mira will leave with a comprehensive discharge and relapse prevention plan, as well as access to lifetime aftercare services. Included in the price of our programs are:

  • — Two day revisits, or treatment “tune-ups,” for three years following the successful conclusion of treatment.
  • — Additionally, we offer a number of post-treatment recovery services either directly through our own staff or through approved clinical providers.
