Dr. Steve Batki Co-Authors Editorial Regarding Use of Medication in Alcohol Use Disorder
In the April issue of American Journal of Psychiatry, Alta Mira’s Consulting Physician in Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry, and Addiction Medicine Steven Batki, MD, and research colleague Dave Pennington co-authored an editorial regarding interesting new developments in medications for alcohol use disorder. While medication is often readily employed for major psychiatric conditions such as mood, thought and anxiety disorders, it is employed much less frequently for alcohol use disorder—despite the prevalence of the disorder and the availability of effective medications.
In the editorial, Batki and Pennington review research they feel presents a promising step toward helping the medical community personalize medication based on patient goals and specific genetic factors.
