"Alta Mira was the starting line for my new life. I came here with the desire to change my life and was given the tools and opportunities to set out on a new course. The People of Alta Mira have had a profound effect on me. Everybody has a lot of love and an enthusiasm for growing. I constantly felt supported here. I found peace here, in my mind and in my heart. This peace was made possible by the peaceful surrounding that Alta Mira provides. The people have been an inspiration to me to be a supportive person to those in need in the future. I owe a debt of gratitude that I cannot measure to Alta Mira. I didn’t truly believe that a sober life could be fun, but now I know that it will not only be fun, but it will be richer and deeper."

"There is a great feeling of caring, concern and kindness that I will always associate with this place. I had been here many times when it was a hotel and it always would bring a smile to my face. Back then it was cocktails and partying, now it’s peaceful and a wonderful place to come to for healing. There will always be that feeling of love and warmth, which I will carry with me."

"One month ago I never felt more stuck in my life & in my addictions, in my job, in my relationships. I knew that I needed help but couldn't ask for it. I always believed that showing my emotions was a sign of weakness. That showing weakness was nearly as bad as admitting that I needed help. So I did what I did best: run and hide."
"I have a completely different view on myself and the world; a positive view with endless opportunities. Alta Mira opened me up to be who I already was. Allowed me to clearly see what good exists in me and to honor it. Allowed me to evaluate the parts of me that were not working and to begin the process of fixing them; I am so happy with this new path."

The Community
"I had my First Holy Communion brunch at the Alta Mira in 1957. I am SO happy to see it being used now for recovery groups, especially PTSD! (All PTSD is from "combat" of one kind or another :) It's a very beautiful place. I absolutely think the WORLD of anybody who ADMITS they have a problem with substances. It's a huge step. In my extended family of Bay Area people, it's totally going against the grain of dressing extravagantly and always having a glass of booze in one's hand (endless refills). The ocean is such a healing place. I'm just writing to give all Alta Mira residents and participants my love and blessings, and PTSD does eventually improve, slowly but it does."

"The staff and settings at Alta Mira Treatment Programs are amazing - stylish, comfortable and relaxed - with breathtaking views. I enjoyed all of the meetings with staff and I especially liked the challenge course experience, as well as the yoga and Ayerveda consultation with Lisa. Of course, above all, I enjoyed the spectacular view from the dining room, the terrace and my bedroom window!!!
Alta Mira is more than just a gorgeous view and comfortable amenities; it is a solid, effective treatment program that integrates clinical and holistic modalities into a life-enhancing recovery experience. Alta Mira Treatment Programs has combined some of the most innovative and stimulating treatment approaches into a gentle, yet challenging recovery programs, offered amidst one of the most spectacular vistas in California.
After my personal experience with the staff and facilities, I would feel very comfortable referring one of my own family members to Alta Mira. The facilities are beautiful with amenities to satisfy even the most discerning individual and I believe their clinical program provides a necessary range of treatment approaches that will help anyone who is serious about recovery."

What can I say? That being at Alta Mira Treatment Programs for the weekend was a life changing event; that I learned more about the importance of health and wellness as key to recovery than I ever have before; that I was dumbstruck after witnessing the family sculpting exercise and how powerful such a tool can be if used correctly; that working as a team on the ropes challenge was one of the coolest things I have ever done; that meeting Lisa and learning about Yoga led me to immediately seek out a Yoga group here that I can refer clients to, and finally after being at Alta Mira I am hoping to one day have the opportunity to refer some very lucky clients to your facility. I will be in contact with all of the providers here in Juneau for an upcoming quarterly meeting and plan to let everyone know about the excellence of Alta Mira Treatment Programs. Finally, I would like to thank you and everyone on your staff for giving me the chance to take part in a professional gathering that ended up providing a learning experience beyond my grandest expectations.

“I believe the 12 steps are spiritual principles for living. Nothing that I know of provides better spiritual guidelines for anyone to live by and nothing provides the kind of support that is found in AA. But it is primarily a spiritual program. It does not address, nor does it try to address, the physiological aspect of recovery. Nor do most treatment programs that are 12 Step based. Maybe I should just say neither do most treatment programs. That is why programs like Alta Mira that integrate physiological recovery (especially in the form of nutritional therapy) into a program that provides spiritual, social, behavioral, and psychological guidelines are so needed and fill a gap that we have been missing in recovery programs.”
